The equator of white sausages ( German Weißwurstäquator ) is the playful name of the supposed cultural border between Old Bavaria and the rest of Germany , which is defined as the zone of distribution of Munich white sausages , which are considered to be the hallmark of Bavarian culture.
Equator Position
In general, the equator of white sausages is carried along the Danube River , but this boundary does not include parts of Lower Bavaria and Upper Palatinate . Sometimes the equator is referred to the 49th latitude (north of Ingolstadt ). According to other ideas, we are talking about a 100-kilometer zone from Munich , which does not include much of Upper Bavaria .
According to alternative versions, the Main line is considered to be the border along the Main river, which is recognized as the dialect border of northern Germany, or the historical and political border between Prussia and Bavaria with Austria , also called the Main line , then Baden-Württemberg and much of Franconia , where, however, there are already significant cultural differences with Bavaria and white sausages are not accepted.
The term is also used to distinguish between northern and middle Germany, while the equator is also carried along or near the Main River.
Austrians jokingly call the area north of the equator of white sausages Pifke habitat.
