Battle Course
On August 10 ( 23 ), 1914, the 4th Army , commanded by Baron Salz, moved in a 75-kilometer sector, with the task of defeating the Austro-Hungarian troops, found 40 km south of the starting position of the 4th army. Towards her moved the 1st Austrian army under the command of General Dunklya .
On the morning of August 10 ( 23 ), 1914, Austro-Hungarian troops attacked the troops of the 14th Corps of the Russian Army. An obstinate battle ensued, during which, under the pressure of a superior enemy, the Russians were forced to retreat. The next day, Dunkl ordered to continue the offensive, trying to cover the right flank of the 4th Army. The fighting proceeded with varying success, after two days of fierce fighting, the Russian army retreated to Lublin , taking up defense. By 13 ( 26 ) August 1914, the 4th Russian army retreated completely to Lublin.
By the end of the 14-day offensive operation, the Austrians advanced 75–100 km, but the heavy losses reduced the size of their units to such an extent that from August 20 ( September 2 ) 1914 they were forced to retreat under the onslaught of the Grenadier , Guards , III Caucasus and XXV corps , semicircle surrounding Dunkl's right flank [1] .
