Russian stick (circus genre)

The Russian stick is a circus genre, which grew out of the traditional circus acrobatic genre Voltige . The two lower vaulters took up wooden bars, or, subsequently, aluminum pipes, the upper gymnast stood on their feet or hands. The lower Voltigeurs, tossing and accepting the upper one, helped him perform certain tricks. One of the best representatives of this genre was Irina Shestua .

Number in the Russian Stick genre

There are several varieties of the Russian Stick technique. In the domestic circus, it is customary to hold a stick on the shoulder, and, for example, in the Romanian circus they “throw” them from the hip level. Also used is the "Russian stick" with a shock absorber (number of acrobats Dotsenko).

History

In 1977, Ivan Georgievich Gerekliyev , the head of a circus school in the city of Bender , the Moldavian SSR , invited his daughter Irina Ivanovna Gereklieva and her partner Alexander Petrovich Moiseev to make the Russian Stick number using the trampoline jumping technique.

To do this, it was necessary to use not aluminum pipes, but fiberglass fiberglass poles. At that time, this high-tech new material was produced only at the Kiev factory for athletes high jumpers with a pole; later American and German poles began to be used in the issue.

This idea was received without enthusiasm. However, later, Alexander Moiseev nevertheless made this number, and under the leadership of Levshin in Rostov-on-Don the number “Russian stick - acrobats on poles” was first presented.

Tricks

In 1978, Gereklieva (Moiseeva) Irina Ivanovna for the first time performed a triple somersault back and was listed in the encyclopedia of circus art of the USSR as the first performer of this trick. The following tricks are also considered complex elements in Russian Stick: a double somersault in strikasat, two blanches , a double somersault with a pirouette.
