Crested duck [1] ( lat. Lophonetta specularioides ) is a species of waterfowl from the family of ducks , the only one of the same genus [1] ( Lophonetta ). Two subspecies are distinguished: Lophonetta specularioides alticola and Lophonetta specularioides specularioides [2] . They live in South America and the Falkland Islands .

Tufted ducks are medium sized brown spotted ducks. They reach a height of 50-60 cm. The species does not show dimorphism of sex. Crest is found in both sexes, although in females it is somewhat shorter; crest is absent in young birds.
It feeds on invertebrates and algae, prefers small coastal areas. Nests in a bush near water, lays 5-7 eggs.
