Koscoroba [1] ( lat. Coscoroba coscoroba ) is a waterfowl of the duck family. The only species of the genus Coscoroba .

Description

Koscoroby resemble swans , but they are smaller in size. Nevertheless, these are large birds: their average weight is 4.2 kg, their length is 1 m, and their wingspan is 1.57 m.

The color of the crocodile is white with black feathers at the ends of the wings, its beak and legs are red. Sexual dimorphism is not expressed.

Distribution

Koscoby live in South America. The breeding region is from southern Chile and central Argentina to the province of Tierra del Fuego in Chile and the Falkland Islands . In winter, birds fly north to central Chile, northern Argentina, Uruguay, and southeastern Brazil.

Habitat - vegetation covered with swamps and lagoons. The scorpion eats mainly grass and small algae, sometimes mussels or fish. The population is estimated at 100,000 birds.

While females hatch eggs, males guard the nests. After hatching, males protect the chicks from predators. Koscoroba lives up to about 20 years.
