Biography
Born in the city of Propoisk, Mogilev province (now the city of Slavgorod, Mogilev region of Belarus ). [2] In 1819, I. I. Grigorovich graduated with a candidate’s degree from the St. Petersburg Theological Academy [3] , then served as rector of schools in Vitebsk and Gomel , and later served as a court archpriest. Since 1837, he was a member of the Archaeographic Commission , which included the publication of the first Belarusian archaeographic collection of sources - “The Belarusian Archive of Ancient Letters ” (part 1, Moscow 1824; part 2 was found in handwritten condition in 1958). The main work published by I. I. Grigorovich on Belarusian history and archeography is the 5-volume Acts Relating to the History of Western Russia ... ( St. Petersburg, 1843-53), which contains unique documents on the history of Belarus, Lithuania and Ukraine XIV— XVII centuries. He was also the author of spiritual literature, wrote "Historical Information on the Life of St. Mitrophany" (St. Petersburg, 1832).
