The knee-elbow pose ( Latin coitus a tergo ), also the knee pose , " doggy style " , the man behind , the doggy ( English Doggy style ) - one of the positions during intercourse . Used for vaginal and anal sex.
Content
Title
The name of the pose comes directly from the method of its implementation: one of the partners introduces a member or an object imitating it from behind into the vagina or anus of another partner (kneeling and resting on the elbows and / or palms ), holding her / him by the waist , hips , chest or buttocks .
Other names include a knee-elbow pose, “cancer,” a man behind, and a doggy style ( Doggy-style ). In ancient Greece, the position was known as the pose of a lioness [1] .
History
As Igor Kon notes in his work “Sexual Culture in Russia: a Strawberry on a Birch Tree”, sexual positions in Ancient Russia were carefully regulated by the norms of penitential books ( penitentials ). The elbow-elbow was also among the prohibited positions, since, according to the church, it reproduced animal behavior or homosexual intercourse ("bestial fornication" and " sodom sin with his wife") [2] . The minimum repentance for this sin was 600 nods, the maximum - excommunication. In this case, specific circumstances were taken into account: how often the sinful position was practiced, who was its initiator, whether the wife participated voluntarily or by coercion of the husband (young couples, under 30, usually received indulgence, older ones were punished more severely) [3] .
Features
Advantages
The position allows the penetrating partner to view and caress their partner or their partner from behind with free hands. In turn, a passive partner (a woman or a man) can massage the penis and testicles of the penetrating partner, putting his hand between his legs [4] [5] .
In vaginal sex, the male back position is suggested by some sexologists as one of the best for stimulating the G point , since the penis exerts more pressure on the front wall of the vagina .
Also, unlike the missionary position, the penis penetrates deeper into the vagina and stimulates the erogenous zone of the anterior vaginal fornix [6] .

Weaknesses
The main disadvantage of the knee-elbow position, as a rule, is insufficient emotional contact between partners, due to the inability to look into each other's eyes, kiss on the lips, etc., which can be consciously or unconsciously perceived as a lack of tenderness and romance [4] [7] . In addition, sometimes the knee-elbow pose can be perceived as humiliating for a woman, since the corresponding way of having sex can be perceived too similar to intercourse of animals. This circumstance is reflected in the vulgar names of poses: “dog-like”, “cancer”, etc.
