Career
Alexei Rogonov began figure skating at the age of 6 in Achinsk with Gennady Andreevich Petrov. About 10 years he trained at an open skating rink, as a loner and became the winner of the "Cup of Siberia and the Far East." At 16, he moved to Perm and began to ride like a hotbed at Lyudmila Kalinina [2] . Alexey's first partner was Sabina Imaykina .
Alexey joined Anastasia Martyusheva in 2006 , and they moved to Moscow to work in the newly formed group of Natalya Pavlova .
The couple had a rather large age difference for junior skating, which caused certain difficulties. Back in the 2007-2008 season, they won bronze medals of the Russian Junior Championship, but were unable to participate in international tournaments because of the ISU age limit, according to which, athletes who have reached the age of 13 years old on July 1 of the previous year are allowed to junior tournaments, and Anastasia was only 12. Similar problems awaited the couple in the season 2009-2010, since at that time Alexey would be 21 years old and, according to the rules, he would not be able to play at the junior level. At the same time, Anastasia, who would not have been 15 at that time, could not be allowed to participate in “adult” competitions.
In the 2008-2009 season, the couple participated in the Junior Grand Prix series , won the stage in the UK and became third in Mexico , thus qualifying for the final , where they became fourth. They were sixth at the 2009 Russian Championship, and they won the country's junior championship. At the 2009 World Junior Championships , after a short program, they occupied a low 11th place, but gathered in the free program, won this kind of program and, in terms of points, became the second after another Russian pair, Lyubov Ilyushechkina and Nodari Maysuradze . At the beginning of the Olympic season, the pair began to perform well, including at the Ondrei Nepela Memorial , but then the pair ceased activity.
Since May 2014 Rogonov began to ride in tandem with Kristina Astakhova [3] . In the fall, they made their international debut at the Volvo Cup in Riga , which they won. In November, the Russian Grand Prix stage was held in Moscow, the Russian couple withdrew from the competition, and the Russian Federation declared the pair Astakhov and Rogonov as owners. The new pair performed successfully, turned out to be the third [4] . A month later, the couple just as successfully performed at the Croatian tournament Golden Horse Zagreb 2014 , which won, while significantly improving their athletic achievements in the free program and amount [5] . At the Russian championship in late 2014, the couple was in 4th place [6] .
In early February, the couple performed at the Winter Universiade in Spain . In the short program, everything turned out well, the athletes exceeded their previous sports achievements and were in second place. But in the free program, they could not get around the Chinese skaters [7] . At the end of February, information came that Astakhova and Rogonov were going to be the third Russian pair to the world championship in Shanghai [8] , and they won the Russian Cup in confirmation of their ambitions [9] . At the world championships in China, they closed the top ten best pairs of the world.
In the new season in October 2015 in Bratislava at the Nepel Memorial, the skaters performed very well, having improved their athletic achievements in the short program and the total, as well as having won the free program [10] . Three weeks later, the couple performed in the USA at the Skate America Grand Prix series . The skaters were unsuccessful, after a short program they took the penultimate place, and in the free program they took the last place [11] . In early November, the skaters performed at the Audi China Cup Grand Prix stage . They were in fifth place [12] . In early December, athletes in the tournament in Zagreb took second place and improved their previous achievements in the short program. At the national championship , the pair’s performance was successful, the skaters finished in fourth place [13] . The skaters did not fall to the European championship in Bratislava and were only second substitutes. However, the two best Russian couples could not go to the tournament due to injuries, and the skaters made their first debut in the continental championship.
The new pre-Olympic season the Russian couple began in Finland at the traditional Finlandia Trophy tournament , where they managed to get silver awards in a serious struggle [14] . In mid-October, Russian skaters performed at the Grand Prix stage in Chicago , where they took a place in the middle of the tournament table at the America's Cup [15] . In early November, the Russians performed at their second Grand Prix stage in Moscow , where they took third place at the Rostelecom Cup , while they improved their previous achievements in the short program and amount [16] . In early December, the couple performed in Croatia at the Zagreb Golden Horse tournament, where they took first place in a bitter struggle. However, a few hours after the competition, the refereeing team moved the Russians to second place [17] [18] . At the end of December, the skaters performed at the Russian Championship in Chelyabinsk , where they took fourth place in a bitter struggle [19] . Athletes in February took part in the final of the Cup of Russia, which, like the year before last, won [20] .
In the Olympic season
Russian skaters began the new Olympic season in Bratislava , where at the Ondrei Nepela Memorial tournament, they finished in a bitter struggle with silver medals [21] . At the same time, they improved their previous achievements in total and in a short program. In early October, in Espoo , on the Trophy of Finland , the couple finished in the middle of the tournament table [22] . Two weeks later, the Russians performed in the Grand Prix series at the home stage , where the couple finished with bronze [23] . They also again managed to improve their previous achievements, only this time only in the amount and free program. Three weeks later, the athletes took part in the Japanese stage of the Grand Prix series, where they finished with bronze medals [24] . They also managed to improve all their previous sports achievements. In early December, followed by a performance on the Golden Skate of Zagreb , which the couple confidently completed in second place. At the national championship in mid-December in St. Petersburg, the couple finished next to the podium [25] . In January, the leading Russian couple Ksenia Stolbova and Fedor Klimov did not receive an invitation to the Olympic Games, the first substitutes were Astakhova and Rogonov. In mid-February 2018, competitions in the individual tournament began in Gangneung . Athletes easily reached the final part of the competition and slightly improved their previous achievements in the short program. At random, their performance was not so good, and they finished at the end of a dozen.
At the end of the season (early summer), the couple decided to skip the current season on the initiative of a partner [26] . Alexei then decided to engage in coaching. However, a couple of weeks later he paired up with Alina Ustimkina [27] , with whom a year ago, after her back injury, Volodin broke up [28] . Upcoming after the Olympic season, the couple missed.
