Gwangju ( cor. 광주시 ? , 廣州 市? ) Is a city in Gyeonggi-do Province, South Korea . The name of the city, written in Hancha , is identical to the Chinese city of Guangzhou .

Punwonni in Gwangju is one of the centers of ceramic production in the country since the Joseon era. A significant part of the country's white porcelain was produced here. There were export channels to China. Punvonni masters were official suppliers of white porcelain for the royal court of Korea. [one]
Content
History
In the year 370, Gwangju (then called Hanam Vireson) became the capital of the ancient kingdom of Baekje and remained it for 376 years. In 940 it received a modern name. In 1577, Gwangju received administrative status of “bu” and included 23 districts. County status (kun or gun) was obtained in 1907. In 1626, Fort Namhanson was built in the city. In March 2001, received the status of a city (si). [2]

Economics
One of the centers of the Korean ceramic industry. Agriculture is also well developed - livestock and the cultivation of grapes , rice , tomatoes and peaches . [four]
Tourism and Attractions
- Fort Namhanson is Gwangju's main attraction. It was built in 1626 (although in its place there was a more ancient fort built at least in 672 during the Silla Dynasty), it is now open for tourists. Walls with a height of 3-7.5 meters stretch for almost 12 kilometers. [five]
- Jongjin Temple Here in the XVIII century was one of the first centers of Christianity in Korea . [6]
- Lake Paldanho - formed after the construction of the dam for the local power plant. Turned into a resort place - there are several hotels and restaurants. [7]
- Gwangju is famous for its ceramic products . Here is one of the centers of the ceramic industry in South Korea. A world-wide ceramics exhibition [8] and the annual September festival of white ceramics are also regularly held (such ceramics were delivered to the court of the van of the Joseon Dynasty ). [9]
- Tomato Festival - Tomatoes are one of the main products of local farmers. The area of the festival is more than 200 thousand m². The program includes a tomato tasting, fair, various competitions for participants and spectators of the festival. [ten]
