Dongducheon ( 동두천시 ? , 東 豆 川 市? , Dongducheon-si) is a city in Gyeonggi-do Province, South Korea . The city is located near the borders with the DPRK , as a result of which it is heavily militarized. It is a strategic point in the defense chain of the capital of South Korea, Seoul . There are several bases of the American army .

Content
History
The history of the city is rooted in the era of the Three States . In the days of Goguryo, the territory where Tondujon is now located belonged to the Neyulme district (hyung), which, after joining the state of Silla, was renamed Sacheon. Later, during the reign of the Koryo Dynasty , the area became part of Yangju County. Yangju in 1446 received the administrative status of Mok. In 1963, Tondujon became a separate administrative unit with the status of Up . The status of the city was obtained in 1981 . [one]
Geography
The city is located in the north of South Korea, in the province of Gyeonggi-do. In the north it borders with Yonghon County, in the south and west - with the city of Yangju , in the east - with Paju . The landscape is mostly hilly.
Tourism and Attractions
- Natural
- Soyosan Mountain, on the slopes of which there are several ancient monuments, in particular, the Buddhist temple Chajeam. Now there are several routes for mountain tourism. The height of the mountain is 587 meters. [2]
- A number of less popular mountains are located within the territory of Tondujon : Chilbonsan , Machhasan, etc. Many of them have tourist routes. On the mountain Machhasan are the ruins of a medieval castle. [3]

- The Buddhist Temple of Chajes, built in the 7th century . There is a library at the temple where ancient Buddhist documents are stored, for example, a translation of a Chinese Buddhist manuscript from the Tang Dynasty , made by local monks in the 15th century . - Tonduchkhon Rock Festival, held annually in August. Dongducheon is considered one of the places of origin of Korean rock music, as the band “ADD4”, the pioneers of Korean rock, arose here. Up to 30 thousand people visit the festival annually. [eight]
- Autumn Tduduhon Festival - a holiday dedicated to the arrival of autumn. It takes place annually during the week in early October.
