MTV (body armor)

Marines master new combat equipment - MTV body armor based on Camp Foster, Okinawa, 2007
Components of body armor MTV

MTV ( Eng. Modular Tactical Vest ) is a modular tactical body armor , currently it is a full-time US body armor. Modularity implies the ability to quickly change the configuration to obtain various combinations of levels and area of protection of the vest, as well as the possibility of its use as a platform for placing individual equipment.

Designed for the United States ILC , adopted in 2006. In September 2006, the US ILC entered into a contract with Protective Products International (PPI) for the supply of 60,000 MTV vests. He began to be supplied to the troops in 2007. In August 2008, the U.S. Navy also entered into a contract for the supply of 28 thousand MTV body armor. MTV body armor protects the fighter from fragments of ammunition, from bullets of cartridges 9 × 19 mm (IIIa protection level), and when composite armor elements (ceramic / organite) are installed in it, ESAPI provides protection against a wide range of weapons, including automatic and rifle bullets. The body armor weight of 14 kg is heavier than the previous IBA vest model, however, the MTV design provides a more efficient distribution of the vest mass over the upper body.

Design

Consists of front and back parts (front and back) and two side panels. The front armor panel covers the chest from the level, just below the clavicle, and the upper abdomen to the level of the elbow bends. It also provides for the installation of a collar (two-piece) and an inguinal apron. Up to four armor panels can be installed in a vest - chest, back and two side panels. Thoracic and dorsal reinforcement elements are installed in the outer pockets of the case, the side ones are placed in special pockets that are mounted inside the side panels of the body armor. The vest is created according to a common pattern, in which the side panels are fixed on the chest of the body armor using textile fasteners “burdock” (in the original “velcro”) and are closed by a central valve. The inner side of the vest cover is made of mesh, which should contribute to improving the microclimate of the vest space. Inside the pocket for the rear armor panel there is a pocket for storing instructions for the body armor, and in the pocket of the rear insert, if it is missing, you can put the reservoir of the drinking system using the passages for communication wiring in the case to output the hose of the drinking system.

It has a specific quick-release system - pulling the cable disconnects the fastenings of only the side sections of the body armor, the upper fasteners connecting the front and back of the vest must be disconnected independently. The quick-release cable loop is located on the right side panel and can be installed in two positions - in the lower or upper part.

Available in 5 sizes: XS, S, M, L, XL. For each vest size, a collar of the appropriate size is issued (except for the unified XS-S size). The front element of the collar and the inguinal apron are available in two sizes (XS-M, L-XL).

In December 2011, the process of replacing MTV with a new model of body armor - IMTV, began.
