Bayamo ( Spanish: Bayamo ) - a city in Cuba , the center of the province of Granma . Located on the Bayamo River. The population is about 150 thousand people. An important hub for roads and railways.

Bayamo was founded by the Spanish conquistador Diego Velazquez de Cuellar on November 5, 1513. In the 16th century, Bayamo was one of the most important centers of agriculture and trade in Cuba. During the War of Independence of 1868 - 1878, it was an important center of rebel activity. The city is considered the birthplace of the national anthem of Cuba ("Bayames"), its author Pedro Figuiredo was born in it.
The city has a developed food industry, and manganese ore is being mined in the vicinity. There is a university - one of the largest in Cuba. In the city center, numerous monuments of architecture of the colonial period have been preserved.
