Biography

Born in Kiev in a Jewish family. He worked at the factory "Lenin Forge" and at the same time studied at the working faculty at the Music and Drama Institute. N.V. Lysenko.

In 1939 he graduated from a music school in Kiev. He studied at the Kiev Conservatory in the class of theory and composition with Professor Lev Revutsky , after finishing the first year he taught at a music studio in the town of Lozovatka in the Cherkasy region.

At the beginning of World War II he was mobilized into a fighter battalion, which guarded various institutions, then transferred to a rifle regiment. The command transferred to the Caucasus, served as head of the department of the Red Army amateur activities of the Transcaucasian Front . He wrote songs for the army. He was awarded the medal "For the Defense of the Caucasus", "For the Victory over Germany."

In 1946 he graduated with honors from the Tbilisi State Conservatory in the composition class of Professor Andrei Balanchivadze .
Returning to Kiev, he was engaged in creative activities and led choirs, worked at the Kiev studio of popular science films .

The author of seven operettas, 13 symphonic works, more than 200 songs, ballads, film music, the oratorio Jewish Tragedy, and the opera The Righteous. In 1981, at the Ukrtelefilm studio, his operetta Girl and the Sea was filmed .

Member of the Union of Composers of Ukraine , Honored Art Worker of the Ukrainian SSR (1972) [1] , People's Artist of Ukraine (01/27/1993), twice awarded the medal "For Labor Distinction".
