About the team
In 1922, in Leningrad, under the auspices of the Krasnaya Zarya plant, a sports society was formed with the corresponding name. The basketball team first played in regional competitions, not just winning factory championships. In 1937, the first club championship of the USSR in basketball among clubs was held, with which Krasnaya Dawn won silver medals, passing only Moscow Dynamo ahead [1] . It is worth noting that in that year Zarya bypassed other teams from Leningrad, such as Spartak , Dynamo , Burevestnik , GOLIFK . In the 1/16 finals, the Red Dawn beat Spartak ( Moscow ) with a score of 37:24, in the 1/8 finals - Lokomotiv ( Bottom ) (41:21), and in the semifinal - Tbilisi Dynamo (33:31 ) [2] . In the final bullet, “Red Dawn” lost to “Dynamo” (Moscow) - 15:25, played a draw game with “ Lokomotiv ” (Moscow) - 33:33 and defeated fellow “Dynamo” - 31:20. As a result, due to the best goal difference, “Red Dawn” outstripped Lokomotiv in the fight for silver medals [3] . The following season, 1938, the team took 8th place out of 9 participants (the championship was played out in a single-round tournament), winning only 2 victories [4] . The next two seasons, 1939 and 1940, the team played in group II [1] . After the war, the team with that name was no longer in the basketball elite.
