DescriptionVulkanodon had a small size, it was 6.5 meters long, and a little more than a man in height, about 1.9 meters. His weight was about 750 kilograms. Possessed a long (relative to body size) neck and tail.
He was a representative of herbivorous dinosaurs, whose main ration was leaves, grass and other vegetation, which he swallowed, as his teeth were not suitable for chewing. It inhabited a volcanodon on the territory of modern South Africa ( Zimbabwe ), about 208–201 million years ago (early Jurassic ).
OpeningVulkanodona was described by paleontologist Michael Raat from the University of Witwatersrand in 1972 . At first, the volcanoodon was classified as an omnivorous prosopod, due to the shape of the tooth found in the excavations. Later it was established that this tooth belonged to another lizard, which might have gnawed on the carcass of the volcanodon, after which Michael Raat corrected his own mistake in the description. He made a mistake due to a lack of head and neck.
