Since 1928 he worked in his father's peasant farm, in 1930 he moved to Syasstroy and got a job at Syasstroy pulp and paper mill , worked as a mechanic, electrician, driver, press operator. At the plant he graduated from a two-year evening technical school and driver courses. Since 1932 he worked as the head of the electric workshop at the Volkhov Aluminum Plant .

From November 1933 to October 1935 he served in the Red Army , a junior commander of an anti-aircraft artillery battery in the city of Pushkin ( Leningrad Military District ). After completing the service, he returned to work at Syasstroy Pulp and Paper Mill , and at the same time he graduated from the Duderhof Flight-Glider School of Osoaviahim ( Leningrad Region ). He worked as a senior instructor, then as the head of the Volkhov district glider club. In 1938 he graduated from the Osoaviahim Higher Glider School in the village of Koktebel in the Crimea . He worked as an instructor in the flying club of Mineralnye Vody . [one]

In October 1939, he was drafted into the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Fleet and sent to the Naval Aviation School. JV Stalin in the city of Yeysk . And thanks to his success in gliding sports and his excellent knowledge of the material, he completed exam entrance flights so successfully that he was accepted immediately to the third year of school. In August 1940 he graduated from college and was sent to the 13th separate fighter aviation squadron of the 61st fighter aviation brigade of the Baltic Fleet Air Force. World War II

A veteran of the Great Patriotic War from the first day, the first combat mission took place on June 22, 1941. For almost the entire first year of the war, the squadron conducted military operations on the land front, participating in the Leningrad defensive operation and in the defense of Leningrad . By August, had more than 100 sorties. In October-November 1941, among six pilots, Golubev was seconded to the Hanko Peninsula for air defense of his fleet garrison defending far behind enemy lines and against Finnish and German air raids. On his return from Hanko, he participated in the air defense of Kronstadt , in November 1941 he was appointed flight commander . In a battle on August 13, 1941, he was shot down and seriously wounded, and in early October he fell on a damaged plane to Lake Ladoga , swam several kilometers in ice-cold water to the coast. Until the beginning of 1943, he fought on the I-16 fighter.

In February 1941 he was transferred to the 13th Fighter Aviation Regiment (in the same month the regiment was transformed into the 4th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment of the Baltic Fleet Air Force. Vasily Golubev is one of the most successful fighter pilots of the Red Banner Baltic Fleet.

He brought to life his own tactical ideas. On March 12, 1942, alone on an I-16 plane, he fought against a pair of German Messerschmitt Bf.109 fighters, both Germans were shot down in a short battle.

By June 1942, the commander of the guard squadron , Captain V.F. Golubev, completed 339 sorties, conducted 61 air battles, shot down 5 enemy planes in person and 16 in the group (the award list refers to 4 personal and 23 group victories). [2]

At the beginning of 1943, the regiment began to receive new La-5 aircraft, and in 1944 it was re-equipped with the latest La-7 fighters. Since the end of 1944, the regiment was based in Finland . The last sortie was on May 8, 1945.

In total, during the war, Vasily Golubev made 589 sorties, conducted 133 air battles, shot down 17 enemy aircraft personally and 15 in the group [3] (there is a large scatter in the literature on the number of his victories: 39 personal and 12 group victories are claimed, about 16 personal and 39 group [4] , about 16 personal and 23 group [5] , about 19 personal and 20 group, about 27 personal and 12 group victories, etc.).
