Story
An unnamed provincial town somewhere in the USA .
The young guy Dick, whose mother has died long ago, and his father spends all the time at the mine, on the advice of his father, also gets a job there. His nanny, Clarabell, meets him every day after a hard day and takes him home, buying his favorite chocolate carriages along the way. But Dick does not like working in the mine and he gets a job as a consultant in the store. There he meets Stevie, a strange, uncommunicative guy.
Clarabell persuades Dick to go to her grandson Sebastian's birthday. Dick does not like him, but still agrees. As a gift, he buys a toy pistol, which somehow plunges Dick into the soul. In the end, he gives Sebastian a shortened version of " Portrait of Dorian Gray " by Oscar Wilde , and leaves the gun to himself.
Time passes, Dick's father dies, Clarabell goes on a well-deserved rest, and Dick is still working as a store consultant. One day he finds an old toy gun and brings it to work. Stevie notes that this is not a toy at all, but a 6.35 mm revolver. After that, Stevie explains to Dick the basics of weapons and shows his pistol - "the old piece of iron." Then they go to an abandoned mine to try pistols in action. Dick likes a new fascination with weapons, on the advice of Stevie, he gives his revolver a name - "Wendy".
Dick and Stevie gather a group of guys around them and establish the secret club of gun lovers "Dandies" ( Eng. The Dandies ). The key principle of the club is the idea of pacifism - weapons should never be used against people. This hobby attracts children so that they stop thinking about the possible danger of firearms ...
