The Greenland Saga reports that Bjarni was sailing from Iceland to his parents, who decided to go to Greenland that year. However, that summer of 985 or 986, Bjarni lost course due to the storm, with no map or compass. Since he had never been to Greenland before, he swam at random. Far in the west, he discovered hills covered with forests that looked suitable for living. Bjarni, however, wanted to get to his parents and did not go ashore and explore new lands. He reported them both in Greenland and in Norway, but at that time no one showed interest in its discovery. [one]
Ten years later, Leif Erickson took Bjarni’s message more seriously, bought the ship on which Bjarni traveled, hired a team of 35 people and went in search of new land, as a result of which, as it is now believed, reached Newfoundland and founded the Vinland colony there.
