Biography
The third-generation astronomer succeeded his father, Jacques Cassini , as director of the Paris Observatory , but did not achieve much success as an astronomer. In 1745 he described a kind of cartographic projection , named in his honor " Cassini projection ."
Cassini’s life became the compilation of the first complete topographic map of France , which was completed by his son Jean-Dominic Cassini IV and printed by the French Academy of Sciences in 1744 - 1793.
