The area, with an area of 25.6 thousand km², borders on the Kizhinginsky in the southwest, on the Khorinsky in the west, on the Bauntovsky Evenki districts of Buryatia in the north, and the border with the Transbaikal Territory passes in the east and southeast.
The Eravninsky district is located in the intermontane forest-steppe basin on the southern outskirts of the Vitim plateau , in the basins of the Uda and Vitim rivers. The main features of the modern earthly surface of the region are represented by the following landforms: the ancient Vitim plateau , the Eravninsky intermountain basin, river valleys along which the large rivers Vitim, Uda, Konda flow. On all sides, the territory of the region is bordered by spurs of large ridges: from the southeast - spurs of the Yablonovy ridge , from the south - the Tsagan-Khurtei ridge , from the west - the Selenginsky midlands . The highest elevations of the plateau within the region are located north of the middle course of the Zaza River (1269 m).
- Climate

The lowest temperature in January drops to minus 35–52 degrees Celsius , and summer temperatures in July rise to 25–40 degrees above zero.
- Water resources
Vitim - the largest and most watery river, belongs to the Lena river basin. The Uda River originates in the southeastern part of the region and belongs to the basin of Lake Baikal .
Eravna is rich in lakes, the largest of which are Eravninsko-Kharginsky. There are over 10 large and more than 200 small lakes. They are located on the site of vast ancient lakes of the Mesozoic period. The largest of them are: Big Eravnoe (area - 10946 ha , depth - 6 m), Small Eravnoe , Sosnovoye , Gunda , Isinga , Uta-Nur .
