Initial Biography
Afanasy Fedorovich Scheglov was born on January 2 (15), 1912 in the village of Mikhali, now in the Oleninsky district of the Tver Region.
In 1917 he moved to Chertolino station. He graduated from high school in Rzhev .
Military Service
Pre-war time
In September 1929 he was drafted into the ranks of the Red Army and sent to study at the artillery department at the 1st Soviet All-Russian Military School named after the All-Russian Central Executive Committee , stationed in Moscow . In October 1944, he was appointed commander of the 30th Guards Rifle Corps , who took part in hostilities during the Memel offensive , as well as against the Kurland enemy group .
