Standard car numbers, appearance in 2007
Car numbers in Hungary are printed in black letters on a white background. This is usually a combination of three letters and three numbers. License plates issued in Hungary before Hungary entered the European Union, in May 2004, were also marked with the image of the Hungarian flag over the letter H indicating the country of registration (Hungary - Hungary).
Since Hungary joined the European Union, a vertical blue strip, with 12 yellow stars, and the letter “H” have been struck on the left of the number plate. However, these new license plates are on cars purchased and registered after May 1, 2004, and the old license plate form is still valid.
The series began in 1990 with a combination of AAA-001. By 2005, successive combinations of the characters produced reached the letter 'K' (first letter).
From 2008, license plates were issued that began with the letter 'L'. On the license plates of motorcycles, the first letter 'U', on trucks 'F', on trailers before the first letter was also 'F' now it is the letter 'X'.
Diplomatic license plates have a white inscription on a blue background and the letters 'DT' and followed by a combination of four numbers (for example, DT 12-34).
Cars assigned to the police have the inscription 'RB' - instead of the first two letters, followed by four numbers (for example, RB 12-34).
There are also special license plates produced for certain organizations, for example, for the Hungarian television agency Magyar Televízió, the combination 'MTV' is used instead of the first three letters on the license plate of the car. Since 2006, national ambulance services have been allowed to use their old MA format 12-34, but in a new design (indicating car registration within the European Union).
Budapest Transport Limited (BKV Rt.) Uses license plates that start with BPO-123, or BPI-123, and this transport company identifies buses belonging to it with combinations 01-23 and 11-23, respectively. This system is used only for Ikarus buses (because the used number plate system when the number consisted of two letters and four digits changed from BP 0123 format to BPO-123 format), while Volvo hangs on yellow buses license plate with the letter 'F'. A brief summary of some special types of license plates, with an indication of the formats: passengers. Usually there is a limit of up to 5. In Hungary, there is no valid license plate numbering system for vehicles, which reports the exact date and place of issue of license plates in license plates. This is usually included in the registration documentation for this car, but there is no simple way, such as in the UK, that could report on the age of the car, or as simple as in Germany (as well as in most countries of Central and Eastern Europe), to tell us about where the car came from.
