History of UlSPU
On March 25, 1932, the resolution of the Council of People 's Commissars of the RSFSR No. 289 was signed “On the results of the autumn 1931 admission to vocational schools, the network, enrollment contingents and investments in these institutions in 1932”, which approved the creation of 17 pedagogical universities, including the Ulyanovsk Pedagogical Institute.
On June 19, 1932, by order of the People's Commissariat of Education of the RSFSR No. 293, Vasiliy Pavlovich Ovseychik was appointed director of the university. The plan for admission to the three departments (historical, economic, chemical, biological and physical-technical) was set at 120 people. At the same time, a working faculty was opened with a reception plan of 60 people.
For studies, the institute was provided with one of the best in the city building of the former boarding house for children of hereditary nobles, a stranger in 1903 designed by architects A. A. Shode and E. V. Spanner (now the Corps of the Faculty of Foreign Languages of UlSPU) . The staff of the institute was taken 12 teachers. The regional library handed over to the institute 2500 volumes of educational and scientific literature, including foreign ones.
On October 1, 1932, a solemn meeting devoted to the opening of a teacher training university was held. The start of classes at the institute was a great event for all residents of Ulyanovsk. At the suggestion of the Middle Volga regional executive committee, the newly organized pedagogical university was named after the writer M. Gorky.
By 1941, the institute had 3 faculties (Physics and Mathematics, Natural Geography, and Philology), 11 departments. The institute had three educational buildings, three dormitory buildings for students and teachers. The book fund of the library has increased to 45 thousand volumes. 2500 students studied at the university, including 573 full-time students, 806 at the teacher’s institute, and 1127 in the correspondence and evening departments. In total, in the pre-war years, more than 300 full-time research workers worked at the university.
Since the beginning of World War II, more than 250 teachers, employees and students of the institute volunteered for the front. the labor collective remaining in Ulyanovsk was mobilized for agricultural work. The studies were started only in January 1942. This academic year was the hardest in the history of the war years of the institute. By decision of the city committee of the CPSU (b) and the city executive committee, the building of the institute is transferred to military institutions. Despite all the difficulties and hardships of wartime, the pedagogical institute continued to carry out educational activities, reprofiling it and adding various areas of military specialties.
From the 1943-44 school year, the situation in the regional education system began to enter the normal course. By the 1943–1944 school year, the institute had received the first 18 classrooms in its building. The regional party committee supported the petition of the institute to open the fourth faculty - historical, and in October 1943 . new faculty began to work. [one]
In 1946, the Faculty of Foreign Languages was opened, in 1960, the Faculty of Preschool Education.
The most important element in the system of training teachers for secondary schools was teaching practice. In 1947, the institute was assigned as the bases for the pedagogical practice of students and the research work of teachers in two schools of the city: the 4th female secondary and the 26th male seven-year, and later the 1st secondary school. V.I. Lenin.
The successes of the Ulyanovsk Pedagogical Institute in the training of teachers were highly appreciated. On September 13, 1956, by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR, he was named after the outstanding educator and educator I. N. Ulyanov.
In the 1956/57 school year, the institute began to prepare teachers of general interest. This required a new serious restructuring of the entire academic work. Duration of study increased to five years. The Faculty of Physics and Mathematics began to prepare teachers of mathematics and drawing, physics, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering; natural - teachers of biology, chemistry and geography; historical and philological - teachers of history, Russian language and literature. Additional special courses and practical workshops were introduced, classrooms and laboratories were equipped with new machines and devices.
A month-long practical training was organized for physics students at the automobile plant and the Kontaktor plant. Behind them were fixed machines, in which students worked under the guidance of masters and foremen. This experience was approved by the Ministry of Education of the RSFSR and was included in the curricula of all pedagogical institutes as a compulsory subject.
Under the guidance of the senior lecturer of the Department of Physics R. M. Raznik, in 1957 a planetarium and a visual station for optical observation of artificial earth satellites were created - one of the first stations organized by the USSR Academy of Sciences in our country.
At estgeofak the foundation was laid for the creation of a museum of zoology. It also had a geological section with exposures of minerals and paleontological remains. At the initiative of V.V. Blagoveshchensk, the Department of Botany began to form a scientific herbarium of the institute. In 2005, the scientific herbarium of the UGPI was registered in the international database of the world's leading herbaria.
In the postwar years, the research work of students and teachers of the institute also reached a new level. In 1948, the first issue of UGPI Scientific Notes was published. In 1950, a postgraduate course was opened at the institute, conditions for the publication of scientific works improved, and the qualifications of the teaching staff increased.
At the Institute, scientific expeditions began every year: folklore, dialectological, archaeological, botanical, zoological, geographical. The material collected during these expeditions was used by students in their term papers and scientific papers. Thus, the literary circle under the direction of associate professor P. S. Beysov collected proverbs, sayings, songs throughout the Ulyanovsk region. A lot of valuable material was collected during their field practices by biology students, geographers, zoologists.
In 1970, the country celebrated the 100th anniversary of the birth of V.I. Lenin. By this date, a number of buildings were built in Ulyanovsk , including the new UGPI academic building, equipped with modern scientific and educational equipment. The pride of the university and its "calling card" was the winter garden, located in the lobby of the main building and numbering more than 70 types of greenhouse crops. In front of the university, a monument was opened to I. N. Ulyanov , the authors are sculptor A. I. Klyuev and architect N. N. Medvedev.
On May 19, 1982, the Ulyanovsk Pedagogical Institute named after I. N. Ulyanov was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor for his great work in the training and education of teaching staff.
At the end of the 80s, UGPI was one of the first in the country to attempt to create an educational, scientific and pedagogical complex that would ensure the consistency and continuity of various levels of education. Its structure includes: kindergarten No. 144 of Ulyanovsk, pedagogical classes in 16 rural and 4 urban schools, physical and mathematical lyceum of Ulyanovsk, pedagogical lyceum of Dimitrovgrad, Karsun rural lyceum. Regional Institute for Advanced Studies and Retraining of Educators.
