The regional center is the city of Tsimlyansk . The distance to the city of Rostov-on-Don is 236 km.
Content
History
The district was formed in 1924 . In 1931 it was enlarged due to the Kargalsky, Romanovsky and Solenovsky village councils of the abolished Romanovsky district , in 1935 it was disaggregated. In 1963, the territory of Volgodonsky and Martynovsky regions was added to the district, which again departed from the district in 1965 and 1983 . [3]
At the bottom of the Tsimlyansk Sea lies the settlement that was in ancient times the Khazar fortress Sarkel and built by the Byzantines . The Russian prince Svyatoslav defeated the Khazar army here in battle, took the fortress and it became known as the White Vezha.
Geography
Tsimlyansk district is located in the north-eastern part of the Rostov region. The eastern part of the region is washed by the waters of the Tsimlyansk reservoir and borders on the Volgograd region .

Economics
The basis of the region’s economy is agricultural production and processing enterprises; light and food industry enterprises; mechanical engineering and metalworking, building materials, electric power industry. Transport communication - automobile, railway, air, water transport.
The main cultivated crops are wheat, barley, sunflower, corn, as well as grapes, fruits, melons and vegetables. Livestock farms produce meat, milk, eggs, wool.
Transport
The total road network is 235.2 km; of regional significance - 92.7 km, of local significance - 142.5 km. Of them with asphalt concrete pavement - 221.8 km.

Monuments of archeology of Tsimlyansk region:
- Kurgan group "Cherkassky I" (3 mounds).
- Kurgan group "Kalininsky I" (3 mounds).
- Kurgan group "Kotluban II" (3 barrows).
- Kurgan group "Skotsky I" (3 barrows).
- Mound group "Nine Mounds" (7 mounds).
- Kurgan group "Rossoshansky I" (2 barrows).
In total, 71 archeological monuments are registered in Tsimlyansk district of the Rostov region [13] .
Objects of cultural heritage of regional significance:
- The obelisk in memory of the construction of the Tsimlyansk hydroelectric facility in the city of Tsimlyansk.
- The obelisk in memory of the construction of the Tsimlyansk hydroelectric complex of the Volga - Don Canal named after IN AND. Lenin (1952) in the village. Tsimlyansky.
Monuments to V. I. Lenin in the Tsimlyansk region were erected in the settlements of Kalininskaya, Markinskaya, Sarka, Kamyshevskaya, two monuments in the city of Tsimlyansk [14] .
Temples and houses of worship:
- Church of St. George in the village. Karpovsky. Built in eclectic style around 1913 from monolithic concrete. Currently, the temple is undergoing restoration work.
- Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in the village of Tsimlyanskaya. Built in Empire style around 1839. The temple is lost.
- Orthodox church of the Protection of the Holy Virgin in the village of Tsimlyanskaya (Khoroshevskaya). Built in eclectic style.
- Church of the Epiphany of the Lord in the village of Kumshatskaya. Built in 1869.
- Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Tsimlyansk. It was built in 1992 - 2000.
- Church of Panteleimon the Healer in Tsimlyansk. It was built in 1995 - 1997.
On the territory of the district there is a complex natural monument of regional significance , the Donskoy nature park - the Ostrovnoy site.
