Geography

Nowadays - a small town. Located near Mandalay , in Upper Burma.

History

It was founded in 1364 by Prince Tadominbia as the capital of the Shansko-Burmese state , which was one of the largest states in Burma in the fourteenth and sixteenth centuries . In 1527, Ava was defeated by the shans . In 1555, the fortified state of Taungu took possession of the city. In 1600 - 1628 and 1635 - 1752, Ava became the capital of this state. The state of Conbauns replaced the state of Taung; Ava was its capital in 1765 - 1783 and 1823 - 1857 . The city was badly damaged during the 1838 earthquake; the monastery Maha Aun Mie Bonzan (buildings of the beginning of the 19th century ), fortress walls (fragmentary) survived; the most interesting part of the city from the architectural point of view - Nandai (the “royal city”) - was destroyed. The tree left from the royal palace was used to build the U-Bein bridge in Amarapur - now it is considered the longest and oldest bridge in the world made of teak .

Since the states of Taungu and Konbaunov during their existence were the largest in Burma, then all of Burma in Europe was known in the capital of these states as Ava . Currently, Ava is actively visited by tourists coming to Mandalay .
