History
In 1984, students of the Danish Technical University Jesper Balser, Peter Bang and Torben Wind began work on a solution for maintaining accounting records PC Plus. The program allowed you to manage finances, stock, settlements with customers and suppliers. The product has gained popularity in Denmark and Norway , and is still used for small businesses today [1] .
The idea of PC Plus was developed in the first enterprise resource planning (ERP) program, which used client-server technology - Navision (Navigator). Its text version was released in 1987 [2] . The system was intended for use on personal computers connected in a network. Navision allowed you to manage databases of finance, buyers / suppliers and products, as well as billing [3] .
In 1990-1991, the version of Navision 3.0 was released. The program entered the markets of Norway, Germany and Spain 1. One of the main changes was the ability to make changes to the software through the introduction of a programming language.
In 1995, the first graphical version of the system for Windows was released - Navision 1.10 for Windows 95 . It was released under the name Financials and was the first Microsoft Certified Resource Planning program. The 1999 version also added the ability to use Microsoft SQL databases instead of the original database.
In the early 2000s, Navision Software and Damgaard merged and Navision a / s was created [4] . And in the spring of 2001, Navision 2.60 with the User Portal and Navision 2.65 with the Commerce Gateway and Commerce Portal was released. These versions added a customer relationship management system (CRM), which gave users the ability to control the client side of the business, including sales and services.
In 2002, Microsoft acquired Navision a / s [5] and released Microsoft Business Solutions - Navision 3.60, the first version developed in the new division of Microsoft Business Solutions [6] . The subsequent version of Navision 4.0 received a user interface, the structure of which resembled the Microsoft Outlook menu [7] .
The release of Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 included the possibility of customization for the client, where the functionality of each desktop is adapted to the role of an employee in the company [8] . The integration of NAV with the Office application suite [1] has also been deepened.
Technology
The system is a three-tier client- server application consisting of a database management system, application server, as well as users connecting via Windows or the web interface .
The database management system used is Microsoft SQL Server . SQL Server analytics and reporting services are used to analyze and process operational data. Adaptability of Microsoft Dynamics NAV is provided by the object-oriented development environment C / SIDE (Client / Server Integrated Development Environment). C / SIDE has an open source code that allows you to freely change the application code: modify standard functionality, create individual reports, etc.
Microsoft Dynamics NAV is architecturally interconnected with the desktop, infrastructure and server solutions of Microsoft Office and Office 365 , Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft SQL Server Reporting and Analysis Services, Microsoft Office Sharepoint Server, etc.
Microsoft Dynamics NAV Developer's Toolkit fully supports the Microsoft Dynamics NAV object structure and allows developers to analyze existing C / AL code and application architecture. Versioning tools are supplied, with which you can compare the version from the customer with the standard one, and then transfer the functionality developed for the client to the new version of Microsoft Dynamics NAV.
