History
Sampaio Correa was founded on March 25, 1923 under the name Associação Sampaio Corrêa Futebol Clube . The name of the team was given in honor of the “Sampaio Corrca II” seaplane under the command of Brazilian Pinto Martins and American Walter Milton, who visited the city of San Luis on December 22, 1922 .
In 1972, the club became the Brazilian champion in Serie B, but there was still no entry to Serie A. The first season spent in the elite group was 1974 . At the same time, Sampaio Correa took the highest place for itself in Serie A - the 36th.
In 1997, the club became the champion of the Brazilian Series C. The following year, the Cup of the Northern Region of Brazil was won, which gave the right to participate in the international tournament - the CONMEBALL Cup (although the team played only in Serie B). As a result, Sampaio Correa reached the semifinal of the tournament, where only the Brazilian Santos football grandmother blocked the way.
