Kii (province)

Kii Province ( 紀伊国 Kii no Kuni ) , or Kishu (紀 州), was a province of Japan located on Honshu Island. Today, the northern part of this province is part of Wakayama Prefecture , and the southern part is Mie Prefecture . Kii bordered on the provinces of Ise , Izumi , Kawati , Shima, and Yamato . Kii Peninsula was named after this province.

During the Edo period , the Kiy clan of the Tokugawa clan had their castle here in Wakayama .
