Biography
Born in the family of a professor-economist. In 1954 she graduated from the Physics Department of Kharkov University . The meeting with Korney Chukovsky had a decisive influence on her decision to engage in literature. In 1956-1960 she studied at the Literary Institute , where she specialized in translations from English literature. In 1961 , her translation of Oscar Wilde 's Ballad of Reading Prison was widely recognized. In 2003, Saul Bellow ’s novel, Mr. Sammler’s Planet, was released in her translation.
The first author's publications are children's stories ( 1965 ). At the same time, she turned to the drama genre, her first play “Read the Letter” ( 1968 ) was banned after the first production in Perm , and the director was fired from work. On this for Voronel ended the possibility of productions and publications. Her husband, physicist Alexander Voronel , included the plays in his Samizdat magazine " Jews in the USSR ."
In 1972, they applied for travel to Israel , and in 1974 they were able to go there. Since 1975, a citizen of Israel.
The scandalous memoirs of Voronel caused a number of accusations of unreliability [1] [2] .
