Type "Sleipner" ( Nor. Sleipner-klassen ) - type of Norwegian corvettes . Under the fleet construction program from 1960 , it was planned to put into operation five ships of this class, but due to lack of funding this number was later reduced to two, built in 1963 - 1967 . The main purpose of this type of corvettes was to provide anti-submarine defense , and since 1972 , having received new anti-submarine weapons, they have been reclassified as submarine hunters . Since the 1980s , both ships were mainly used as training ships , and in 1992 they were withdrawn from service.
