Scientific activity
In mathematics, he develops two sections: “Rings and semirings of continuous functions” and “The theory of semirings”. In the first section, he published two monographs, scientific reviews and articles in leading mathematical journals of the USSR and Russia.
Solved the well-known mathematical problems of I. Kaplansky, M. A. Naimark, L. A. Skornyakov, A. A. Tuganbaev, M. Henriksen, the problem of structural isomorphism of rings of continuous functions. He also created a new direction in mathematics - “The General Theory of Rings and Semirings of Continuous Functions”.
Theory of rings, half rings and half bodies
Significant advances were made in the theory of semirings and half-bodies by E. M. Vechtomov and his students: a theory of abelian-regular positive semirings was developed, positively ordered half-bodies were studied, the topic of congruence on half-rings was developed, serious results were obtained in the theory of half-bodies, and the theory of bundle representations of half-rings and half-bodies was developed .
E. M. Vechtomov is a well-known algebraist in the country and abroad, the world's leading specialist in the theory of rings and semirings of functions. Founder and head of the scientific school "Functional Algebra and Theory of Semirings". Since 1994, he has been leading the Kirov scientific algebraic seminar and graduate school in algebra, he has prepared 8 candidates of sciences. One of his students defended his doctoral dissertation on the theory of half rings.
Administrative activities
He is the chairman of the Council of UMO for mathematics of pedagogical universities of the Volga-Vyatka region (in 1995-1999 he was a deputy). Since 1997, the editor-in-chief of the periodical inter-university scientific and methodological collection “Mathematical Bulletin of Pedagogical Universities and Universities of the Volga-Vyatka Region”. Member of the Editorial Board of the journal “Bulletin of the Syktyvkar University. Series 1: Mathematics. Mechanics. Informatics". For 11 years he was the chairman of the expert scientific council of Vyatka State University and the deputy editor-in-chief of the journal Vestnik Vyatka State University. Reviewer of a number of publications and dissertations.
Over the years of work at the university, E. M. Vechtomov taught basic chair courses, developed and taught 12 special courses, under his leadership, about 70 diploma works in mathematics were defended. He developed and introduced an introductory course in algebra into the educational process, new programs for algebraic courses, and teaching materials of mathematical disciplines.
Chairman of the SAC in mathematics at Syktyvkar University, Glazov and Vologda Pedagogical Universities. Expert of the Ministry of Education in mathematics and the natural science block for state certification and accreditation of Russian universities. The developer of tests in mathematics at Rosakkredagentstvo. For many years he has been leading student mathematical circles. He headed NIRS at the Faculty of Mathematics. He prepared a number of graduates for admission to graduate school in mathematics. For 15 years he dealt with issues of modern algebra with schoolchildren of Kirov.
Participation in conferences
E. M. Vechtomov made presentations at international mathematical conferences: in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Kazan, Krasnoyarsk, Perm, Orel, Baku, Chisinau, Tiraspol, Lviv, Tartu, Vilnius. He made more than 20 lectures at algebraic and topological seminars at Moscow State University and about 20 plenary lectures on university methods and mathematics methodology at all-Russian scientific and methodological conferences.
Organizer and chairman of four All-Russian conferences on the problems of modern mathematical education in universities and schools of Russia, held at the Vyatka State University in 1998, 2001, 2004 and 2006.
