He began to study music with his father, Domenico Foroni , then graduated from the Milan Conservatory under the direction of Alberto Mazzutato and Placido Mandanichi . He performed as a pianist; on March 8, 1848 , he staged his first opera Margarita in Milan . After participating in the anti-Austrian uprising in the same year ( Five Milan Days ), he considered it best to leave the country and went on tour in Scandinavia. May 22, 1849 Foroni presented in Stockholm the opera Cristina, Queen of Sweden ( Italian: Cristina regina di Svezia ), in the same year he was approved as director of the Stockholm Opera and held this post until the end of his life. In 1851 , however, Foroni returned for some time to Milan on the occasion of the staging of his third opera, Gladiators ( Italian: I Gladiatori ) , on October 7 . Foroni's fourth opera, a one-act dramatization of the medieval farce Lawyer Patlen ( Swede Advokaten Pathelin ), saw the stage on December 4, 1858 , after the composer's death from cholera . Foroni also wrote several symphonic overtures, two of which were performed by the La Scala theater orchestra at a concert in Paris on the occasion of the 1878 World Exhibition .

The street ( Italian: Via Jacopo Foroni ) in his hometown is named after Foroni.
