Biography
George Reeves was born in Woolstock, Iowa, to Don Brewer and Helen Loesher. Grew up in Pasadena . After George was born (he was born five months after his parents married), Don and Helen divorced, after which George and his mother moved to Galesburg in Illinois, and from there moved to California after a while, where Helen left once married to Frank Besollo. Don in 1925 married a certain Helen Schulz and, according to rumors, never again appeared in the life of his son from that moment. In 1927, Frank adopted George, giving him his last name. After 15 years, his mother and stepfather divorced. George was at that moment with relatives and when he returned, Helen told him that Frank had committed suicide. According to his biographer Jim Beaver , George was unaware for several years that Frank was actually alive. [5] After graduating from college, he was engaged in amateur boxing.
He began his acting career in 1939, playing episodic roles in several films, including Gone With the Wind . In 1940, he married Ellanor Needles, an aspiring actress, the daughter of wealthy parents, who wanted to live independently, the marriage with which lasted nine years. During the Second World War he served in the army. In 1951, he began a romantic relationship with Tony Menniks, the wife of Hollywood producer Eddie Menniks. The greatest fame brought Reeves the television series "The Adventures of Superman" (1951-1958).
Reeves died in 1959. According to the official version, he committed suicide by shooting himself with a Luger pistol . The film “ Death of Superman ” ( 2006 ) is devoted to the mysterious circumstances of his death, where Ben Affleck played Reeves, and Adrian Brody played the role of a private detective, who is conducting an investigation in connection with his death.
