Life and work
He studied at the University of Washington (Bachelor) and Yale (Master). A teacher by profession, C. Close devoted most of his life to painting. Starting from the 1960s, with the help of photography , he creates his large-format canvases - on canvas with acrylic paints. By 1980, he had done more than 100 works. In 1969, paintings by C. Close presented at the Biennale at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York , in 1970 the artist held his first solo exhibition. In 1973, his paintings were first exhibited at the New York Museum of Modern Art .
In 1988, as a result of damage to the spine, the artist was paralyzed, but continues to paint.
In 2000, he was awarded the United States National Arts Medal.
In 2008, the State Hermitage Museum, as part of the Hermitage 20/21 project, prepared a solo exhibition by Chuck Close, which was opened in the presence of the author.
