Description

Fokker 100 is a narrow - bodied medium-range jet aircraft with a capacity of up to 107 passengers (hence the number 100 in the name) and is designed for short and medium-haul flights. The basis for this aircraft was the Fokker F28 glider of the same company. In the developed model, the fuselage was extended by 5.51 meters, which allowed to increase the number of passengers to 107 people instead of 85 people in the F28-4000 model. In connection with the lengthening of the fuselage, the wing mechanization was changed to increase lift on takeoff and landing. The wingspan of the F100 increased by almost 3 meters compared to the F28. At the "hundred" it is 28.08 meters, and at the "twenty-eighth" 25.1 meters. Also, the internal equipment was changed, including the interior of the cabin.

The Fokker 100 uses two Rolls-Royce Tay Mk 620-15 turbofan engines each with a 61.6 kN thrust or two Rolls-Royce Tay Mk 650-15 turbofan engines with a thrust of 67.2 kN each.

The first flight of the Fokker 100 took place on November 30, 1986, certification was completed in November 1987, and the first deliveries to Swissair, which became the first operator of the production model F100, began in February 1988.

Low operating costs and the practical lack of competition in this class made it one of the most popular aircraft in the late 1980s, until the advent of the improved machines of the Bombardier CRJ200 and Embraer ERJ 145 families.

Although the aircraft was successful in the market, but due to ineffective management, the company continued to lose money and finally went bankrupt in March 1996.

The production of Fokker 100 aircraft ended in 1997 , a total of 283 aircraft were produced. As of August 2006 , 229 Fokker 100 aircraft remained in operation with 47 airlines in the world.
