Curriculum Vitae

A. S. Deminov was born in a working class family. He was left without a father early and went to work as a teenager at the Vasilyevsky State Glass Factory ( Tatar Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic ). He worked first as a student, then as an ordinary worker, and after receiving the appropriate education he was appointed its director.

Education:

Higher courses of "red directors" at the Industrial Academy of the Supreme Economic Council of the USSR in Leningrad (diploma with honors, 1931 ).

  • Over the 10-year period of Deminov’s tenure as head of the Vasilyevsky state glass factory Pobeda Truda, this enterprise has reached a significant level [1] . At that time, the foundation was laid for what the plant was in the postwar years.
  • As the director of the largest glass factory in the country, Deminov took practical part in the formation of the glass industry in the country as a whole, advising the government of the country and sharing best practices with managers and specialists of other enterprises of the industry [2] .
  • In the late 30s, with the participation and administrative leadership of Deminov, the plant developed a unique technology for the production of chemical laboratory glassware and instruments from heat-resistant borosilicate glass of the Pyrex type. Mass production of these products in a wide range began in 1945 .
  • N. Anisimov in the book “Lights over the Volga” noted that “in 1937 the enemies tried to slander the name of the honest, principled communist Deminov. But he adequately retained his loyalty to his homeland during the difficult years of repression ” [1] .
  • In the early years of the war, higher authorities transferred him from the post of director of the plant to more responsible work. However, Deminov, having armor in his hands, in 1942 volunteered for the front, being already a middle-aged father of four minor children (the youngest son was only two months old) and having a sick mother [1] . The officer of the Soviet Army Deminov fought in the 1st Guards Tank Corps and died in battle shortly before the end of the war. He is buried in Poland , at the Soviet military cemetery in the city of Tuchola , grave No. 10 [3] .

Interesting Facts

  • In the era of industrialization of the USSR [4] , when A. Deminov was the director of the plant, the enterprise was completely reconstructed and modernized, significantly strengthening its material and technical base. By the beginning of World War II, the plant employed about 1,500 workers [1] .
  • In August 1941, A. S. Deminov, as the director of the glass factory, received and housed the evacuated train of workers (165 people) and the equipment of the Druzhnaya Gorka glass factory (village near Leningrad); Leningraders could not be evacuated the second train, since August 25, 1941 years, the village of Druzhnaya Gorka was occupied by fascist invaders.
  • A significant role in perpetuating the name and image of A. S. Deminov was played by the famous Polish military writer and journalist, deputy of the Polish Sejm ( 1980 - 1985 ) Janusz Psimianowski .
