Medumi ( Latvian. Medumi ; formerly Russian. Meddum , Latvian. Medums ) - a village in the Medum parish of the Daugavpils region of Latvia , on the shores of Lake Medum , is located 16 km from Daugavpils on the Daugavpils - Zarasai highway ( Lithuania ), the A13 state road and the European route E 262 . The population is 570 people (2015) [1] . The village is located near the natural park "Medum Lake District" (Medumu ezereine, Latvian. Medumu ezeraine ).

The first mention in documents of 1701 , in 2001 marked the 300th anniversary of the village. Before the revolution of 1917, a famous resort place; So, in 1905, Chukovsky was hiding from the police here. During the First World War ( 1914 - 1918 ), Medumi fought fierce battles on the outskirts of Dvinsk , in the autumn of 1915, the line of the Russian-German front of 1915-1918 passed in the vicinity of the village. In 2000, on the 85th anniversary of the defense of Dvinsk in the autumn of 1915 (September – October) , a memorial Cross was erected and opened on October 29 with a memorial plaque on the side of the highway on the front line in memory of soldiers and officers of the Russian Imperial Army defending Dvinsk in the autumn of 1915 .
In Soviet times, the village was the center of the Medumsky village council of the Daugavpils district . The village was the state farm "Medumi" [2] .
In the village there is a volost council, there is a secondary school, a special school, an old estate park, an old cemetery. The chairman of the volost council since 2005 is Poltavets Nikolay . The volost has its own coat of arms.
The village also has a prayer house of the Medum Old Believer community, a Catholic church.
