Sports career
He began to ride at the age of 9. At 12, he began to train with the famous coach Jacqueline Vodecran , together with the "senior friend" - Alain Gilletti . He was a five-time champion of France (1958, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965).
In 1960 he received the first medal of the European Championship. He was remembered by the Soviet audience at the 1965 European Championship in Moscow , he risked performing three triple jumps in a free program to the music of J. Massenet , including a triple rittberger , but fell when playing two of them. At the 1965 World Cup, he replaced triple jumps (including triple rittberger) with double jumps, however, absolutely pure performance allowed him to win and get scores up to 6.0 for artistry.
Kalma, as a representative of the French school, was distinguished by an interesting original style, creative approach, paid much attention to “elements between elements”, nevertheless, he tried to include in the program the most complex set of jumps at that time (three triple). At the beginning of his career, he always lagged a bit behind mandatory figures .
Professional career
After the World Cup he finished his performances, devoted himself to medicine, opened his clinic in Paris ( surgery ). In 1967, he took part in the first heart transplant operation in France. Chairman of the medical commission of the NOC of France.
In 1968, the Olympic flame was lit at the opening ceremony of the Olympics in Grenoble .
Refereeing
He became a judge of the ISU , advocated for increasing the professionalism of judges, tried to have his own (in most cases, quite justified) opinion, encouraging the innovation of figure skaters [1] . (For example, at the European Championship in 1983 he only rated V. Kotin with a score of 5.8), was distinguished by emotional, expressive behavior (up to the point that he jumped up because of a judicial place, waved his hands, being in disagreement with the opinion of the other referees).
Political Activities
Then, in 1984-1986 he was Minister for Youth and Sports of France in the government of Laurent Fabius . In 1986-1993 and from 1997 to 2002 he was a deputy of the National Assembly . From 1995 to 2014 - mayor of Livry-Gargan .
He came to the USSR at the invitation of the USSR Sports Committee (1985)
