Story

The story of two small blockades in besieged Leningrad - 7-year-old Nastya and 5-year-old Katya, Leningrad children, who, along with adults, suffered all the hardships of the war. The film constantly mixes scenes of children's games and harsh reality - a feature of children's perception is very accurately conveyed: despite the war and blockade, Nastya and Katya are constantly returning to the children's world with his interests, dolls, and children's songs.

Creation History

Preparation for the filming began in January 1944 - immediately after the blockade ring was broken. Victor Eisymont, with great risk to his life, decided to shoot at least part of the scenes in real Leningrad in order to show a more reliable setting. The shooting took place exclusively in the historical center in those periods when there were no air strikes.

Recognition

The film "Once Upon a Time" was a great success in many countries of the world. At the seventh Venice Film Festival, the picture received a prize.
