The forest of Beria is located in the vicinity of Safed , in the southern part of Galilee . It was laid in the thirties and fifties of the last century. To a large extent, it was planted with the direct support of the Jewish National Fund " Keren Kaymet le-Israel ".
In 1945-1946, in the forest, a group of religious settlers - members of the Palma detachments founded the and the settlement ("quartz") of Beria, which became the scene of the struggle with the British authorities (see Birya affair ).
The forest of Beria is one of the largest in Israel; it covers an area of more than 21,000 dunams (21 km²) [1] . Jerusalem pine , cypresses , oaks , Canary pines, Atlantic cedars, Spanish gorse , prickly slope grow. The forest is similar to other artificially planted forests in Israel: the number of different types of trees is very limited, the trees grow, forming almost straight rows [2] .
The forest was badly damaged during the Second Lebanon-Israeli War of 2006 - about 5% of the forest area burned out as a result of rocket explosions [3] .
It is a popular holiday destination, it has landscaped hiking trails, viewing platforms, springs. The Museum of Local Lore is located in the fortress of Beria. Among the attractions of the forest are the ruins of the ancient synagogue and the grave of the Jewish righteous.
