The Turkmen Autonomous Region is an administrative-territorial unit of the Khorezm NDS , which existed in April - October 1924 .

Turkmen AO was formed on the territory of compact residence of the Turkmen of Khorezm in April 1924 . AO was divided into 5 district shuro:
- Ilyalinskoe
- Kunya-Urgench (transferred from Kara-Kalpak Autonomous Okrug )
- Porsinsky
- Takhtinsky
- Tashauz
On October 27, 1924, the Turkmen AO of the Khorezm NDS was abolished, and its territory was transferred to the newly created Turkmen SSR .
