Description in the literature
In his book “ We Walk along the East Sayan, ” the famous writer and surveyor Grigory Anisimovich Fedoseev wrote [2] :
| It turned out to be not so easy to overcome Kazyr. It’s scary to see how he rides along steep boulders, shrinking in narrow banks and overthrowing everything that will try to measure his strength with him. It is amazing how crushing run, roar and eternal malice do not bother him! I had to ride horses and, at the risk of being shot down, cross the river. |
History Facts
For a long time the river was considered the most difficult for rafting in the central part of the Sayan Mountains . In 1903, a Russian explorer and traveler, Lieutenant Colonel of the General Staff, Vereshchagin Ilya Ivanovich, died while crossing the river.
In November 1942, while tracing the Abakan-Taishet railway line, the Koshurnikov survey team — Koshurnikov himself, Alexei Zhuravlev and Konstantin Stofato — died.
In 1957, during the filming of the film “In the Sayan Mountains,” the cinema expedition “ Tsentrnauchfilma ” killed the cameraman Anatoly Timchenko while passing the Bazybaisky threshold. The expedition leader N. L. Prozorovsky later wrote:
| We still do not know the true cause of Toli's death. Maybe it hit a stone? Maybe a cramp from a long stay in cold water, or the heart could not stand it? When I now try to comprehend how we could lose Tolya, much becomes clear. A tragic event could not have occurred if not for a whole series of small, at first glance, completely insignificant errors. Self-confidence, neglect of danger, unnecessary dashing are not the best qualities of character in a difficult campaign. We had lifejackets that we never wore. They were lying underfoot on the raft, making it difficult to work. And finally, didn’t we make the wise decision to lower the raft without people, and not go on it? If, if ... If we were a little more experienced and careful! |
