Biography

He was a lawyer in the Toulouse parliament, in 1789 - a deputy from Languedoc . Exiled for moderate views, Fabre returned after 9 Thermidor ; He was a member of the Council of Five Hundred , where he dealt mainly with financial and legal matters. The first proposed tax on theater tickets (droit des pauvres). Opponent of the Directory , one of the leaders of the 18 Brumaire coup, Fabre got a seat in the tribune (1799), where the next year he took the presidency; later was a senator. On April 26, 1808, Napoleon was elevated to the rank of count and became a member of the House of Peers.

In 1814, Fabre voted for the deposition of Napoleon and the formation of an interim government. Louis XVIII retained his title of peer of France, but during the Hundred Days Fabre remained in the House of Peers, as a result of which, after the Battle of Waterloo on July 24, 1815, as a member of a group of 29 peers, he lost this title, which was returned to him in 1819.
