The first Swedish representative of the clan, about whom there is reliable information, was the knight Peder Fleming, mentioned in documents between 1366 and 1406. From his grandchildren, Henrik Klasson (lagman in northern Finland in the 2nd half of the 15th century) and Magnus Klasson, two main branches of the genus come from - the oldest and the youngest.

The grandson of the first was the Finnish navigator Eric Joakimsson Fleming, whose son Klas Ericsson during the coronation in 1569 of King Johan III received the title of baron (this baronial branch of the Fleming af Wiek was suppressed in 1599). Eric's nephew Lars Ivarsson became a baron in 1561 during the coronation of Eric XIV , however, the Baronial branch of the Fleming af Nyunes, founded by him, was stopped already in the 70s. XVI century with the death of his son. At the beginning of the XVII century. Fleming's oldest branch has died out.

The youngest branch represented by Henrik Klasson was added to the Knights House matrices in 1625 under number 4. His son, Eric Henriksson , was elevated to baronial dignity in 1654 and became the founder of the Baronial branch of the clan - Fleming af af Lais, whose male line was cut short in 1786. From the nephew of the aforementioned Henrik, Klas Larsson , whose children received the baronial title in 1651, the Baronian branch of Fleming af Libelitz still exists.

In 1818, one of the baronial branches of this genus was entered at number 1 in the matrices of the Finnish Knights' House, however, in 1852 its male line was cut short, and then, in 1881, the female one. From the grandson of the aforementioned Klas Larsson, Klas Hermansson , whose children and widow received the count title in 1687, the count branch of the Fleming clan originated. It was introduced into the matrix in 1689, but was cut short in 1729. In 1831, another count branch descended from the Barons of the Fleming af Libelitz, and whose founder was Klas Adolf .
