An ardent follower of Newman , he converted to Catholicism in 1845 . Like Newman, he joined the Oratorian society. He wrote many hymns and religious songs, as well as travel descriptions: “Sights and Thoughts in Foreign Churches and among Foreign Peoples” (1842); "The Styrian Lake and Other Poems" (1842); "Sir Lancelot, a Legend of the Middle Ages" (1844).
