Biography

He graduated from the Chinese branch of the Moscow Institute of Oriental Studies (1954), after which he first came to the PRC . In 1954-1956 he worked at the Soviet exhibition in China, which was exhibited in Beijing , Shanghai , Guangzhou , Wuhan . The State Council of the People's Republic of China was awarded a commemorative medal of Sino-Soviet friendship. In 1956, he was the translator of A. I. Mikoyan during the latter's trip to Wuhan.

In 1959 he graduated from the graduate school of the Moscow State Institute of Foreign Relations of the USSR Ministry of Foreign Affairs , in the same year he defended his Ph.D.

From 1960 to 1967 he worked in Soviet overseas agencies in the PRC. At the USSR Embassy in the People's Republic of China he was engaged in relations in the field of culture and education; He was a translator of trade missions in China, I. A. Eremin and M. I. Sladkovsky . In 1965, he acted as an interpreter at the meeting of A.N. Kosygin with Mao Zedong .

He was a translator during a visit to the USSR by Chinese writers and artists: Tian Han , Lao She , Ba Jin , Xia Yan , Mei Lanfang .

An important stage in the activity of Yu. M. Galenovich was his work as an expert and adviser to the Soviet government delegation at the border talks in Beijing (1964, 1969-1970). For work in Beijing during the " cultural revolution " was awarded the Order "Badge of Honor" .

Working in the state institutions of the USSR, he was engaged in the analysis of relations with China and events in political life in the PRC (“cultural revolution”, “the Lin Biao affair”).

In 1972, Yu. M. Galenovich was sent to the United States to work at the UN . As director of the Department of External Relations of the UN Secretariat (1972-1976), he led all UN information centers in the world and UN relations with non-governmental organizations. While in the United States, I studied the state and prospects of US-China relations .

From the end of the 1970s, he conducted scientific and organizational work as a deputy director of the Institute of Africa (1978-1988), and then of the Institute of the Far East of the USSR Academy of Sciences . At the Institute of Africa, he studied relations of the PRC with African countries.

At present, he is the Chief Researcher at the Institute of Far Eastern Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The main area of ​​interest of Yu. M. Galenovich is the history and current state of relations between the Russian Federation and the People's Republic of China, as well as the role that Chinese politicians played in these relations (Empress Cixi ; Li Hongzhang ; Sun Yat-sen ; Chiang Kai-shek ; Mao Zedong; Liu Shaoqi ; Peng Dehuai ; Hua Guofeng ; Hu Yaobang ; Zhao Ziyang ; Deng Xiaoping ; Jiang Zemin ; Hu Jintao and Xi Jinping ).

He teaches at the Department of History of the Institute of Asia and Africa at Moscow State University. MV Lomonosov and (since 2008) in the RSUH .

He is Vice-Chairman of the Russian-Chinese Friendship Society, a member of the Moscow-Taipei Coordination Commission on Economic and Cultural Cooperation, and First Vice-President of the Association of Sinologists of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He lectured on the history of relations between Russia and China at the Beijing Institute of International Relations.
