Jürgen Schmude ( German: Jürgen Schmude ; born June 9, 1936 , Insterburg ) is a German politician, former minister of government of Helmut Schmidt .

Personal life and education
After graduating from school in 1955 , Schmude continued his education. He studied law, theater and German studies in Göttingen , Berlin , Bonn and Cologne . In 1961, he passed the first state exam, and in 1966 the second, legal state exam. Until 1967 he worked as a lawyer in the company of Gustav Heinemann . In 1968 he received a doctorate in law with a thesis on "The concept of the law against restrictions in competition . "
Jürgen Schmude is married with two children.
Party affiliation and deputy activities
Schmude originally planned to join the All-German People's Party , founded by Heinemann , but because of the dissolution of the ONP and the accession of its members to the Social Democrats, he became a member of the SPD .
From 1964 to 1971 he was a member of the city council of the city of Moers , in addition, until 1969, a deputy of the district council.
From 1969 to 1994 - Member of the Bundestag . Moreover, constantly or as a representative of the city of Moers (until 1980) or from the electoral district Wesel II (the district in which Moers is a member). In the parliament from 1977 to 1978 he was chairman of the working group on foreign and security policy of the SPD faction. From 1984 to 1985, Vice-Chairman of the SPD Bundestag faction.
Public office
With the coming to power of Helmut Schmidt Schmude in 1974-1976, he served as parliamentary state secretary to the Federal Minister of the Interior.
February 16, 1978 was appointed to the post of Minister of Education and Science. He retained this post after the federal parliamentary elections of 1980 . But in January 1981, Hans-Jochen Vogel went to Berlin to the place of the ruling mayor of the city, and on January 28 Schmude replaced him as Minister of Justice. After the collapse of the social-liberal coalition and the resignation of all ministers from the FDP, Schmude headed the Ministry of the Interior for two more weeks on September 17, 1982. Soon, the Bundestag passed a vote of no confidence to Helmut Schmidt, and on October 1, 1982, Jürgen Schmude resigned along with the entire cabinet.
In 1985-2003, Schmude was chairman of the synod of the Evangelical Church of Germany .
