Biography
In his childhood, he studied the violin with his aunt's husband, accompanist of one of the Berlin theaters, Heinrich Pönitz (as a result of the adoption of a talented boy), then studied the harp under the direction of Louis Grimm and composition by Karl Friedrich Weizmann . In 1864 , together with Grimm, he toured Scandinavia, in 1865 he performed as a soloist with the Bilze Orchestra. In 1876 he performed at the Bayreuth Festival . Since 1877 , the soloist of the Berlin Opera, he also taught at the Berlin Higher School of Music ; his pupil and successor was Max Saal . In addition to the harp, Pönitz was also considered a virtuoso performer on the harmonium. In his composer's legacy - pieces for harp and harmonium, as well as compositions for string quartet, song, opera “Cleopatra”.
