The district center from 1923 to 1927 - the village of Kamenskaya, from 1927 to 1935 and from 1940 to 1989 - the city of Kamensk-Shakhtinsky , from 1989 - the working village of Gluboky
Geography
Kamensky district is located in the north-west of the Rostov region, in the floodplain of the middle course of the Seversky Donets . The territory of the district is 2.57 thousand km².
The bowels of the region are rich in minerals; there are large deposits of coal, building stone, clay, sand, and natural gas.
In some places of extraction of stone quarries were filled with water, forming deep and clean reservoirs ..
History
For the first time, the district was formed in 1923 (the district center of the village of Kamenskaya ), was part of the Shakhty district of the Donetsk province of the Ukrainian SSR , and in June 1924 it was returned to the Southeast Region of the RSFSR .
Since 1927, the regional center stanitsa Kamenskaya received the status of a city and the name Kamensk. Since 1929, the district center was called the city of Kamensk-Shakhtinsky.
October 21, 1935 Kamensky district was abolished [4] . In 1940 he was re-formed with a center in the city of Kamensk-Shakhtinsky .
From January 6, 1954 to November 19, 1957, the Kamensky district was part of the Kamensky region . Since November 1957, the Kamensky district again became part of the Rostov region.
On February 1, 1963, the Kamensky district was enlarged by joining the abolished Glubokinsky district , as well as part of the territory of the Zverevsky and Belokalitvinsky districts .
In 1965, part of the territory entered the newly formed Belokalitvinsky district .
In October 1989, the district center was moved from the city of Kamensk-Shakhtinsky to the working village of Gluboky. Some regional institutions and organizations are still in the city of Kamensk-Shakhtinsky.

Economics
The main directions in the development of the economy of the region is agricultural production. Grain and livestock production in the region is represented by 23 agricultural enterprises, of which 16 farms are profitable. There are 289 farms in the district, which are mainly planted.
Along with agriculture, processing industry based on local materials and sources, there are industrial enterprises for the extraction of natural stone, production of silicate brick, chemical dyes.
Attractions
- Memorials to soldiers-liberators at the mass grave of soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War. Memorials are located in the farms of Bogdanov, Samburov, Pleshakov, in the village of Gluboky.
- Church of the Exaltation of the Cross in Astakhovka farm.
- St. Nicholas Church in the village of Bogdanovskaya.
- The ensemble of Cossack smokers (II facility) in the village of Khobotok.
- Assumption Church in st. Kalitvenskaya.
Natural Monuments in the Kamensky District:
- The tract "Proboscis" is a floodplain forest with poplars, oaks, willows. It performs water and soil protection functions. It has environmental and water conservation significance.
- Alder pegs are a ringed alder forest on a sandy massif. It is one of the unique objects of biogeocenological research.
- Cretaceous outcrops on the Glubokaya river represent a chalky relief with rounded slopes. Rare vegetation grows here, including endemic species, obligate calcephites listed in the Red Books of the Russian Federation and the Rostov Region.
- The Provalsky steppe is a stony steppe with outcrops of bedrock and petrophilic vegetation. There are 333 species of vascular plants of 56 families. Of these, 12 are Red Book.
- Rock outcrops at a distance of 2 km. The outcrops are carbon deposits in a shallow fold band. Up to 25 meters in depth, you can see different types of tectonic disturbances.

- Barrow "Bambetov-I".
- Barrow "Verkhnegoveyny-I" in the village Verkhnegoveyny.
- Kurgan group "Deryugin" in x. Fedortsev.
- Barrow group "Donets-I" (8 mounds).
- Barrow group "Donets-I" (8 mounds).
In total, 462 barrows, settlements and settlements are assigned to archaeological sites in the region [15] .
