Nemanichi [comm. 1] (Serb. Nemagiћi) - a dynasty in medieval Serbia ( 1170 - 1371 ). Its founder, the great zupan Raski Stefan Nemanja ( 1170 - 1196 ) laid the foundation for a single state in Serbia. The largest representatives: the son of Nemani, the great zupan Stefan the First-Crowned ( 1196 - 1227 ), who took ( 1217 ) the royal title; Stefan Dusan ( 1331 - 1355 ), who created the vast Serbian-Greek kingdom in the Balkans and proclaimed himself in 1346 "king of the Serbs and Greeks." Under his son, Tsar Stefan Uroš ( 1355 - 1371 ), the Nemanichi state collapsed. Lazarevichi came to replace them in Serbian despotism .

Coat of Arms
Represented by a two-headed white eagle on a red background. The Byzantine emblem of the Paleologists dynasty was taken as the basis of the coat of arms of the Nemanich dynasty. The double-headed eagle was adopted from Byzantine culture and soon became a symbol of both the Serbian kings and the Serbian power as a whole. It can be seen on the Catalan map of 1339, where the capital of King Dushan is marked with a two-headed eagle.
